We're a damn good team.

Well, I had a flood in our basement today. I mean FLOOD, about a 1/4-1/2 inch standing water. You see, the washer was filling but the hose popped out of the sink and the gravity sent it down the hose (onto the floor) instead of into the washer.

Four very lucky things about this:
1. We didn't have carpet installed yet.
2. It didn't reach a closet where there's just stuff all over the place on the floor.
3. I HEARD it was still running. It would have been easy to not even notice and even think of it.
4. Maddy was taking a nap.

Of course, I had recently thrown out my mop altogether with the intention of buying a new one. But never did. All of our spare towels were in Maddy's room and I did NOT need her awake through this so I wasn't going to get them (plus, they wouldn't have done enough good anyway). So I wound up sweeping the water into a dust pan and dumping it in a bucket while I waited for Matt to come home.

And let's talk about Matt for a minute. I call his cell and he answers, "Can I call you back?" He was obviously in a meeting. I say, "NO! We have a flood in our basement." He repeats me out loud, "We have a flood in our basement. I'm on my way." There wasn't any, "Oh hon, can you handle it? How bad is it? Do you need me to come home?" Thank goodness!!!! He did ask if I got the water shut off and I said the water is no longer flowing so there's no need to worry about it. On his way home I called him and told him to stop at Sears Hardware (on the way home) and grab a shop vac. There was no way to get all that water up without it. He was home in RECORD time. I guess he ran into an issue with the check out clerk at Sears (trying to help solve a problem with another clerk when Matt asks, "Can I get someone to check me out?" She says, "Yeah, I'll do it (and turns around to keep solving a different problem.)" Matt says, "Look, I'm buying a shop vac I need to get home ASAP cause there's a flood in my basement. Will you PLEASE check me out right now?" She sighs and says, "Yeah, I'll check you out. Hold on." Matt says, "I understand you want to fix that, but I have a FLOOD IN MY BASEMENT and need to get this SHOP VAC home NOW." She strolls her way over and rings him up. So there are TWO CLERKS trying to solve one problem and Matt is the only one at the register but somehow they can't seem to check him out??)

But anyway, he gets home with the shop vac and darn do we work well as a team. There's no explaining that needs to be done, no brainstorming how to solve it, no debating who'll do what. We just get a move on and get that water sucked up. There's no need to talk about it. We just do it. We help each other and it all gets done. Matt's on his way to work now and Maddy is still down for a nap, thank goodness. I'm wearing high waters (named quite appropriately) and my bare feet are a bit cold, but really? The basement is looking pretty good! We have two fans blowing, one in the laundry room and one in the spare room. The spare room's windows are open. The drywall doesn't look any worse for wear but we still want to get it dry as much as possible with the fans.

Whew! Not to mention, I've been trying to get other stuff done around here and Maddy hasn't really wanted to let me. I DID finish off the powder room besides the mirror. I think we're going to frame the mirror before we put it back up. It looks really nice. If you want to see pictures you can see them here.

Matt:

If any of you are fans of the 'Upside Down Show', then you'll understand, we call our powder room the 'shifty-slanty room', for reasons made obvious by the photo.

Jess:

Of all the days for Maddy to settle in for a long nap, good thing it was today! I hope Matt place an official complaint with Sears about their employees attitudes. In fact, now that you are done with the shop vac, I would make them take it back as a return adn give you your money b/c of the rudeness.

Chrisse:

What an ordeal! Glad you were able to get it taken care of and that little miss Maddy slept well for you.

I agree with Jess, return that SV and get your money back!
