Can I tell you how impressed and in awe of that little girl I am? I can't believe how good she was this morning! Here's the story:
A few days ago I started to think about the fact I needed my flu shot. So, I called both doctors and neither had it in. So I called Kmart and they had just closed the clinic nearest my house. The next closest clinic was today about 10-12 miles from our house.
So Maddy got up late this morning, about 9 am, and as soon as she was finished with eating, I grabbed our stuff and ran out the door. The car ride for 10 miles took 40 minutes. Downtown traffic was all kinds of screwed up because they did different lane changes. Now only one lane goes straight at a certain intersection and two turn. Well, the majority of people want to go straight. It was a really stupid change. Anyway, we did finally make it to Kmart and can I just say that Maddy was FABULOUS the entire car ride there?!
We get into Kmart and the line for the flu shot is LONG. And the ONE nurse giving the shot is taking her good sweet time. Oh well, I drove all the way here for this right? So, the line wraps around this really tight area and I had to hold Maddy the whole time cause there was no way I could fit us in there with a cart and I didn't bring in her stroller. We probably had to wait a good half hour to forty-five minutes. She was GREAT the entire time!!!
Now, it probably helps that the majority of people standing around us loved playing with her and cooing over her. The lady behind me is a Philipino Grandma with 12 grandkids and four kids! Her name was Lola and she was wonderful with Maddy. Maddy just loved her. Maddy just loves being around people too so she enjoyed herself. The lady about three people in front of me also had a little boy who was born on the same day Maddy was! Maddy is only a few hours older. We were in the same hosptial at the same time. Small world! But anyway, when I got my shot I put her back in the cart (since there's more room by the front) to have my hands free. I pulled the cart up next to where I was sitting and Lola came over and spotted Maddy for me. It was really sweet of her.
After that, Maddy and I took a quick walk around the store. I bought her three small toys. They were supposed to be for the car ride home, but I think it was because I was just so grateful that she was sooo good! HA! We also bought some baby food and black shoes for Maddy for her halloween outfit. They may be a BIT big, but not too bad.
The car ride home was a lot faster and more uneventful than the car ride there. It still took quite a while, but Maddy never fussed a bit. Not even a little! She sucked her thumb and talked to the cars that were riding by. As soon as I got home, I started a bottle for her and got her ready for a nap. Now she's napping for a bit.
So even though she COMPLETELY missed her morning nap today, she handled it extremely well. I did get my flu shot, so that's done. Matt is getting one from his work and I need to get one for Maddy. But her pediatrician doesn't have any of the vaccine in right now. So I will need to call them back later.
