So let's talk about fat. Fat is really pretty simple. It happens when people eat too much and the wrong kinds of foods and don't move enough. It's simply about calories, output verses imput. It sounds simple, but man, if it isn't hard to keep the fat off (or get it off in my case).
Diligence and discipline are needed to keep moving and eat the right foods. Please note, I didn't say starve yourself, just eat better. Well, I haven't had either diligence or discipline lately.
I tried the South Beach thing and it worked--for a while. Then I went to WI and it just wasn't as easy to eat right all the time. Not that my parents didn't try to help me, cause they did. But, it was just too artificial for me and I got SO SICK of salads. However, it did teach me a lot about Glycemic Index which I still value. I always knew that high fiber/complex carb diet was good because it kept you full longer and benefitted in digestion. The less fast sugar a food has the better it is for you and at keeping cravings at bay. But, I lacked the discipline so I quit that and kind of went back to eating like I had been--which wasn't very good or very bad.
Then, I decided to start working out again. We own an elliptical machine which I have to say I really love. I also have a balance ball, resistance bands, weights, yoga mat and work out videos. So, I was going to start getting up early at 6 and working out. That didn't happen. We'd go to bed late and I wouldn't set my alarm or I'd turn it off when I have insomnia in the middle of the night. There's that diligence part again!
Anyway, this morning my alarm went off and I actually GOT OUT OF BED and worked out. Can I tell you how good that felt? How nice it was to have a bit of time for myself in the morning? To get a shower before everyone else was out of bed? To be READY for my day now without rushing around? It feels GREAT.
Working out has always been a precursor to eating right for me. If I work out, I'm more focused on eating the right foods. So, hopefully, this little trend will continue into next week and beyond. I'd like to drop some weight, fit back into my prebaby clothes and just feel better about my body. I'm not expecting miracles overnight. I'm not expecting to have my same body shape that I had pre-baby. Afterall, I did have a baby!! But, that's not saying I shouldn't be able to fit into my clothes!
And you all are going to help keep me honest. I'm going to start adding my work out of the day at the bottom of my blogs to keep track of what I'm doing. So along with my tea, you'll start seeing my work out too. I'm also going to judge my eating habits from the previous day on a scale of 1-5, bad-good. Ok, well, Maddy just woke up! Gotta run!
