I love Fall. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. I like it even more than Spring. I love pulling out my sweaters and wearing warm fuzzy socks. I love slathering on a nice scented lotion and burning incense or candles. Warm baths are so much more enjoyable when it's cold outside. Having warm apple cider and hot chocolate is such a treat!
Autumn and Halloween aren't the same things for me though. Halloween is a part of Autumn and I enjoy it. It's fun to see the little kids come around in their costumes and say trick-or-treat. It's nice to spend the evening outside with the neighbors chit-chatting. I love buying candy for the kids. Of course, Maddy will be too young to go trick-or-treating this year. Halloween will also fall during part of her bedtime too, so one of us will need to sit outside and wait for kids to show up. But Maddy will enjoy hanging out outside during the beginning part of trick-or-treat. Her costume is very warm and add in another layer underneath and a hat and she'll be fine.
But yes, Halloween is a part of Autumn but doesn't define it for me. I love seeing the leaves fall off the trees and taking walks in the park. I love putting on mittens and a hat and feeling the cool against my nose. I love to bake! I make pumpkin bread, cookies, apple crisp, gingerbread cookies, and other breads. It's the time to bake to warm up the house and make it smell good! I made a new pumpkin bread recipe last night and it's really nice. I'm probably going to send a loaf with Matt to work today since it made two loaves and we don't need it around the house here. Or, I may give it to our Chinese neighbors who are always sooo wonderful about giving us food they make. I think I'll split it between them both. I also like to toast pumpkin seeds and dip apples slices in caramel.
Most of all though, I love to be outside in the fall. It's a fabulous season, even if it does get darker earlier! However, it's the dark later in the morning that has been hard for me. My alarm goes off at 6 am so I can get up and work out. Well, I'm having real trouble dragging myself out of bed to work out! The last few days I've worked out during her morning nap instead of at 6 and while it's ok, it's still taking up that first nap. So I feel rushed during my workout and feel like I am not getting things done around the house in a timely manner. So I promise myself the next time my alarm goes off I WILL get up. Well, once again, this morning my alarm went off and I didn't get up either so it's another day of working out during her nap. But at least I'm working out!!!
