Last night after Matt got home and we ate dinner, we decided to go to the mall. Matt needed some new shirts for work and I needed some new pants (argh, darn baby weight--ok, I can't blame the baby, darn weight), and Maddy needed some warmer shirts too. So we loaded up the stroller and diaper bag and headed out! Matt bought seven shirts, I got four pairs of pants and Maddy got two sweatshirts all from JC Penny on sale.
Ok, it gets me how inflated the cost of this stuff is originally though. I mean, we spent some money on the clothes and at the bottom of the receipt it tells you how much you 'saved' today. Well, we saved more than we spent, supposedly. And why is it saving if I'm not putting it in the bank? It's not. It's just spending less than I would have had I not bought on sale. So I'm really not SAVING anything, I'm just spending less.
Matt was a sweetheart and surprised me with two gift certificates to two of my favorite stores. I used part of one last night and didn't know I had the other until I got home because he hid it in my bag! Maddy and I will do a little shopping trip later this week during the day between her naps.
Matt's good friend Andy called us at the mall. Turns out he's in town with his family for the Air Force Memorial Dedication. So, last night him and his wife Debbie came over and hung out for a bit. Matt went out to dinner with them since they hadn't had anything to eat yet and then they all came back here and we had a fire in the chimnea and opened a couple bottles of wine. Andy was one of Matt's groomsmen at our wedding 5 years ago.
Men are funny that way. They can go FOREVER not talking to a friend and when they get together again they just pick up right where they left off. Women can do that too, but not as much as men can. I can do that with my guy friends just fine, but not so much with my women friends. Why is that?
Anyway, it was nice having them over last night.
Today Matt has cleaned some of the basement (it really was starting to become unmanageable) and put up my retractable clothesline outside. He was nervous about that since he wanted to make sure he found a stud. And the stud is only 1 1/2 inches wide every 16 inches. So the margine of error is quite large! He did hit one though which he was pleasantly surprised about. So now I can hang out clothes and avoid the dryer. Just in time for winter! Hehee. So while Matt was working on that, Maddy and I took a long walk and went to the park.
Looks like we won't make it to the fall festival today. Oh well! Andy and Debbie may be stopping by again today, but it depends on their schedule and how long things go. I think I may bop outside and try to weed and tear out some of the garden in preparation for winter.
